October is National Dental Hygiene Month
It’s October again, and every year our hygienists here at Greatest Smiles on Earth join the American Dental Hygiene Association in celebrating National Dental Hygiene month. October isn’t just a time for caramel apples and candy, with trick or treat at the end of the month and the holidays are looming it’s a great time to help your little ones to establish a lifetime of good dental hygiene.
Making a habit of brushing with your children is not only a fun routine it also reinforces the importance of oral health. Studies have shown that children that see their parents brushing and flossing are more likely to carry these habits into adulthood. In addition to brushing for 2 minutes twice a day and flossing, make sure they are cleaning all surfaces of their teeth including the inside surfaces and the tongue. Bacteria, which causes plaque to build up and can cause cavities, love to hide in spots that missed frequently.
It is just as important to keep those regularly scheduled dentist visits. Not only do they catch problems early, often maintaining treatment options to a minimum but they also help to build a foundation, and familiarity for a lifetime of oral health. If you are looking for a new dentist for your child, we would love to have you join the Greatest Smiles on Earth Family, where your child is our priority!
