It’s very normal to be concerned when you think you’re in the middle of a dental emergency. Whatever you do, there’s no need to panic. That doesn’t help anything. Some emergencies do, however, benefit from immediate attention. In very general terms, there are a handful of things you can do as an immediate response.
For a toothache, for example, you can rinse your mouth with warm water to remove any debris. Floss can also be useful for cleaning out the affected area. A similar kind of non-agitating cleaning is also a good first approach for knocked out or broken teeth. In both cases, a cold compress can be used on the outside of your cheek to keep swelling down. Don’t use heat, though, and also don’t press an aspirin on gum tissue or an aching tooth.
